...is not one of hitting rock bottom or ending up in a hospital somewhere on my death bed. It is a story of impatience. It is a story of becoming fed up with where I was and making the choice to make a change.
My career as a singer in NYC was going nowhere due to recurring vocal issues. I was always “trying to lose just 5 more pounds”. Exhausted. Unfit. Flirting with a problem with alcohol. In and out of unsteady unfulfilling relationships. I was living the young performer’s lifestyle.
When my wake up call came – as it does for many – it was a health scare. For once, it wasn’t just my career on the line.
But I knew something had to change. I hated not knowing what was going on in my body. I hated feeling so disconnected from it when I was on stage and off. Why had it betrayed me like this? What had I done to deserve this?
It’s then that I realized that MY BODY hadn’t done this to ME. I had done this to MY BODY.
Not only that, but as a performer, my voice is PART OF my body. It’s not something amorphous talent machine that lives in my neck. It’s something that needs nurturing and care and HEALTH!
So, while finishing my Master’s program at NYU in Vocal Pedagogy and Vocal Performance, I started seeing my own health coach. She urged me to continue my education through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and I’m eternally grateful to her for that.
As a Performer, Teacher, and Health, Wellness, & Empowerment Coach, I believe that we are best able to perform, either on stage or elsewhere in our lives, when we take care of our bodies to the best of our ability.
And this isn’t just true for performers. This is true of EVERYBODY! Whether you’re a lawyer, doctor, artist, teacher, basket-weaver… You depend on your body to keep you going throughout your day.
Improving your body means being able to COMMUNICATE with your body. Not just give instruction and expect results, but to RECEIVE information as well.
I was able to end the war with my body because I started TALKING to it instead of FIGHTING with it. Are you ready to do the same?
"Katie is truly an amazing holistic health coach. She helps set realistic and attainable goals, gives constructive feedback and helps you find the confidence to make positive, long lasting changes to your life. I couldn't be happier with my decision to join her program!" - Meredith in NY
"Katie is about putting your health: mind, body, and spirit back into your hands. She possesses a relatable and gentle personality that allows her to connect and relay information, technique and suggestions with ease. She makes you think, she actively works with you to find solutions, and anyone would benefit from working with her. " - Justin in CA
“I've been singing/performing all my life, and have studied with too many teachers and vocal coaches to count. Katie Gall is the ONLY one who has been able to quickly, precisely and effectively stop my bad habits in their tracks! Just watching me sing Katie could point immediately to the problems and knew at least 3 different ways to fix each of them right off the bat. Katie also understands the value of her students' opinions, thoughts and experiences; she's a great listener and works very well with actors and singers alike to ensure our safety, comfort and success. She can tell just by looking at a piece whether or not it's right for me, as an actor as well as a vocal student. I'm performing great music I've avoided for years because I just couldn't do them before!” – Catesby B.
“Katie has an affinity for creating a fun and inviting environment in her lessons, an important feature for non-professional singers. Always comfortable and packed with useful technique and tips, Katie’s lessons have helped me recognize and sharpen my vocal potential.” --Ally S.
